Child Development

 Curriculum Intent Statement

At Polam Hall School, our Child Development curriculum aims to:

  • The Child Development curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and foster a deep appreciation for the early stages of human life, from conception to the age of five. Students will explore the principles of development across the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social domains, gaining insight into how these elements shape who we become.
  • Through this understanding, learners will recognise the critical role carers and environments play in a child’s growth, exploring how responsible and informed actions can influence a child's future outcomes. Ethical and societal implications are considered, preparing students to contribute positively to the care sector.
  • Students will also develop practical skills in child care, including knowledge of appropriate equipment, nutrition, health and safety, and basic first aid – empowering them to support children’s wellbeing in real-life contexts.
  • This subject fosters cross-curricular connections, encouraging students to link their learning with other areas to enhance their wider understanding of human development and the interconnectedness of knowledge in the world around them.
