    Preparing for the future

The world of work and university life is complex and ever changing, and it is the School’s duty of care to remain in touch with these changes to impart useful and accurate information to our students.

Sixth Formers have unlimited access to the Careers Library and its bank of resources; books, periodicals and prospectuses. Those in Year 12 attend ‘taster courses’ in subjects like Forensics, Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Law, hosted by participating universities and giving a useful insight into potential career paths. Our students are also encouraged to attend university open days.

Sixth Formers also have the opportunity to participate in Unifrog; an online portal that gives private access to careers information where students can list their skills and achievements in readiness for university applications or work. It is a highly effective tool that enables our students to focus on what it is that they really want to do after Sixth Form and how best to go about it.

We have frequent visiting speakers from higher education who will talk to our students about selecting degree courses and writing effective personal statements. Students will also attend careers fairs whilst additional work experience in a relevant field is also strongly advised.

By Year 12, every student receives individual advice and support from both their form Tutor and our Head of Sixth Form as well as our Careers Advisor Mrs Sarah Robinson, be it applying for university, considering a modern apprenticeship or vocational training course, or entering the world of work. The majority of our students go on to study at the university of their choice, including Oxbridge and personal tutors have a key role in enabling them to achieve success.
