Sixth Form Debaters are runners up in Rotary competition

The opportunity to participate in the Rotary debating competition ‘Talking Heads’ on the 9th of February at the All Saints Church was our first experience of team debating outside of the school, and winning the position of runners up was a welcome reward for the time and preparation students and staff worked on in the previous weeks.

The topic regarding artificial intelligence allowed us to broaden our opinions onto the wider issues affecting the world we live in and how we as young people deal with these issues, but also to test our teamwork abilities when faced with audience and opposition questioning.

Barnard Castle School proved a formidable opponent in the debate, raising some important issues, but our display of team cooperation and knowledge allowed us to maintain a calm and controlled lead over the debate. It was a pleasure to attend on behalf of Polam Hall School’s Interact and I look forward to the future of a debating society being established in school.
